The Obscura is a covert, non-metallic defensive tool that fits neatly into our Shinobi Tsukamaki range. The lightweight, covert and utilitarian nature of the Obscura lends itself well to those looking for a simple, reasonably low cost defensive EDC that is low maintenance and can be carried virtually anywhere.
The Obscura is based off of our best selling Pikal model, the Shrike. Borrowing this profile, the Obscura has been hand crafted from black G10, a glass fiber laminate material that is very strong, lightweight and completely non-metallic. We most often use this material on knife handles in our Tier 1 series, but it has been known for many years that G10 can also be used to make a blade.
While G10 blades are definitely not the same as steel ones in terms of their performance, what they lack in edge holding is made up for in virtually no weight, no maintenance, and a non-metallic signature which means they can be carried places metal knives cannot. While we definitely do not suggest doing anything illegal, there are times when this may be a necessity, especially while travelling abroad. The Obscura is more than capable of piercing and creating large wounds which can be all you need to extricate yourself from a bad situation.
The Shinobi Obscura has been updated for 2024 and features our minimalist tsukamaki style handle. This has a base layer of black micro cord with a tsukamaki layer of silk Tsukaito. The handle is resin coated and hardened for durability. The Obscura has been given a simple inon-metallic index sheath and supplied with a length of micro cord for the user to fashion themselves a static line mount.
The Obscura is a simple tool made for a simple purpose, and worth having when the need arise.
