Named after a mythological Hindu creature, considered the guardian of gateways and the entry’s to temples, the Makara is a lightweight utility knife that can can switch to a defensive role when needed. It also has a very personal connection to one of our Knife Makers, the Makara was designed in honour of Elijah’s grandfather.
The Makara is designed to be a simple, lightweight forward grip knife that could be used as a more utilitarian every day carry knife. The blade is just under 3″ long with a pronounced and robust point and a swept flat-ground edge, making it adept at general utility tasks, light bush crafting, or in a pinch could be used for defensive application as well.
The handle is fairly neutral and has great ergonomics for its more utilitarian tasks. It’s also on the smaller side, making it very easy to carry.
This is the first official Makara XL variant which takes the “small” knife and transforms it into a larger knife. Although still very lightweight, the blade length is increased to around 110mm, and with the addition of a small swedge to aid penetration. The blade in this example is Cerakote finished for durability, and the handle is Grey G10 in the Dune texture.
The Makara XL is a great knife with a neutral handle that can be adept as a forward grip fighter, or utility knife. It ships with a Fold Over style Kydex Sheath which can accept Soft Loop or IWB Clip Mounts, which are available in our Accessories section, stock allowing.
This is a great little knife that also happens to be very elegant and fit for a gentleman’s EDC!
