The Chimera is one of our earliest designs and is also one of our biggest Poikal models. A large frame, with much mass behind it and a robust point, all make the Chimera somewhat of a bulldozer!
The Chimera like all our knives sis primarily made from our house steel, 80Crv2, from thick. The blade is typically available as either a Single Edge Pikal with a swedge on the supporting spine, or a s a Double Edge blade. Regardless of the configuration the blade is ground with a flat grind on the Pikal edge to give it a sharp, slightly inwardly curved cutting blade, with the supporting edge primarily there to aid penetration.
This is Chimera number CH044 and is a single edge variant with a swedge, making it extremely robust for piercing and point driven defensive work. The blade itself is finished with a Satin Antique Etch to give it an aged appearance. The handle is completed with our Tsukamaki treatment. The handle is created on a Satin polished Copper Liner with Satin Polished Carbon Fiber fittings. The Samegawa is black lacquered and the Tsuka-ito is black leather, giving it a striking and comfortable appearance.
All our Tsukamaki is completed in the traditional way with highgami made of Japanese Washi Paper, real samegawa (rawhide raisin) and high quality Tsukaito. The Tsukamaki is done correctly and is typically extremely tight and doesn’t require resin coating to secure it in place.
This Chimera comes with a Full style Kydex Sheath and can be fitted out with DCC HLR Clip mounts, as well as other belt or tactical mounts.
This is a great example of a Tsukamaki Chimera which combines modern and traditional materials, perfect for a style EDC defensive blade or heirloom quality piece.
